California Smog Emissions Testing Process
Understanding California's smog emissions testing requirements is essential for all vehicle owners. Here is a breakdown of the key factors that determine when and why your vehicle needs a smog check.
Vehicle Age and Type
- Smog Check: Generally required for gasoline-powered vehicles older than 1975 and diesel-powered vehicles older than 1997. Newer vehicles (typically those 6 years old or newer) are exempt from testing.
- Hybrid Vehicles: Must undergo a smog check after the first 6 years.
